About
The Roof at the Durham is the rooftop lounge of The Durham, a boutique hotel that now serves as a cultural and community hub downtown. It is the only independently owned and locally run hotel in downtown Durham, with 53 rooms (four of them suites), a coffee bar, and private space for weddings, meetings and community events. The building dates from 1968 and was designed by architect Perry C. Langston as headquarters for the Home Savings and Loan Association. A 2015 renovation by Maurer Architecture and interior firm Commune kept its mid-century facade with gold accents, the tall windows of the former banking floor, and the original safe door, which now anchors the bar.
