About
Metroid Metal is a project that turns music from the Metroid video games into metal. Grant Henry, known as Stemage, started it in 2003 after being inspired by Vomitron and The Minibosses, playing every instrument himself and programming drums on an analog cassette 8-track. He first meant to cover the NES soundtrack and then move to other games, but stayed with the Metroid series instead. Every song was offered as a free download and still is. Dan Taylor (chunkstyle) later joined on bass, and the recording moved to a computer to allow collaboration and more complex arrangements. At MAGfest 6, the idea came up of other guitar-playing gamers learning the songs to perform them live, which grew into a band with Dan Taylor and Kevin Lawrence among the players.
