The Mountain Laurels have played in the High Country of North Carolina since 2008, founded by Elaine Gray (guitar), Connie Woolard (hammered dulcimer) and Rhonda Lorence (violin), later joined by Dr. Suzi Mills on bass and vocals and Lauren Hayworth on banjo, whistle and vocals. In 2012 this lineup put out its first CD, of traditional Celtic and folk tunes. Dr. Louise Keegan then added Irish flute and whistle for a second Celtic CD, recorded with upgraded studio gear and Rhonda's engineering. Their third album, "Overlook Ahead," released in 2024, is a concept record of original instrumentals inspired by Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks and High Country scenery.
