About
Gwen Young performs as knives of spain, working as a multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer-songwriter. On flutes, sitar, accordion, guitar, violin, analog synths, a broken autoharp, field recordings, percussion and electronics, she ranges from intimate songs to dreamlike collage and improvisation that mixes folk, psychedelic avant-garde, minimalism and electronic experiment. Her second full-length album, Telluric, on the Chicago label Hairy Spider Legs, made a Tabs Out list of the top tapes of 2016, and her music has aired on WFMU and other stations. She has shared bills with Cate Le Bon, Clang Quartet and Eugene Chadbourne, and also plays in the improvising duo cenOte with Greg Hoffman.
