Baldwin Auditorium
1336 Campus Drive Durham NC 27705
About
Baldwin Auditorium sits on Duke's East Campus. The building was designed by Julian F. Abele, an African American architect, and opened in 1927 as a Georgian building of red pressed brick and Vermont marble under a slate roof, crowned by a dome and oculus visible across East Campus. A $15 million renovation turned it into one of the leading small classical music venues in the Southeast region. It seats 685 in the orchestra and a wraparound balcony, with wheelchair seating on both levels. Its acoustics suit performers who need little or no amplification, such as classical soloists and ensembles, vocal groups and small jazz combos.
