The Duke University Chorale

The Duke University Chorale is the main choral ensemble of the Department of Music at Duke, with 55 singers. It performs sacred and secular works from many eras and traditions, much of it unaccompanied, drawing on more than 500 years of choral music from Western and non-Western traditions. Concerts through the year include a Family Weekend Concert, a Holiday Concert in Duke Chapel, a Spring Concert with orchestra and benefit concerts for Durham charities. Recent orchestral works include Carmina Burana, the Requiem by Mozart and The Sacred Veil by Eric Whitacre, with music by Faure, Bonds and Ramirez planned this year. The Chorale works with local, national and international musicians, including Durham Public School students, students at other universities and professional choirs. In addition to formal concerts, it sings at university events, Duke basketball games, the Duke Cancer Center, non-profit groups and area nursing homes.
