About
Stokes County, NC, is where singer and songwriter Laurelyn Dossett lives and writes. Her songs have been used in film and television, including Hell on Wheels and Ain't In it for My Health, and recorded by Levon Helm (Anna Lee) and Rhiannon Giddens (Leaving Eden). Her solo debut, How Many Moons, with M.C. Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger as producer, was released August 28, 2026, on Sycamore Road. Its 12 songs move from country shuffles with hints of zydeco to swampy blues waltzes, barn-style country rambles and jazz-bar laments. Guests include Rhiannon Giddens on vocals and banjo, Charly Lowry, fiddler Stephanie Coleman, sacred steel player DaShawn Hickman, bassist Jason Sypher, drummer Nick Falk and Riley Baugus. In a career of more than three decades in NC Americana, she has also composed a cycle of folk songs for the North Carolina Symphony and written songs for seven professional plays.
