About

David Childers is a singer-songwriter from Mount Holly, North Carolina, and a man of contrasts: a former high-school football player with an easygoing Southern manner who is also a well-read poet and painter, cites Chaucer and Kerouac, loves folk, jazz and opera, and practiced law before giving it up for his creative work. His sixth solo album, Run Skeleton Run (2017, Ramseur Records), features Scott Avett on four tracks and was co-executive-produced by Avett Brothers bassist Bob Crawford, who also plays with Childers in the Overmountain Men. Don Dixon produced it at Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium Recordings. The songs are short and story-driven, filled with sailors, hermits, lovers and killers facing fate, and the music pulls from folk, rock, rockabilly, country and Cajun styles. Childers favors economy, comparing his approach to “Pancho and Lefty,” which tells a whole story in four stanzas.
