About
Charlotte Choir School is a community choral program, entered by audition, that offers rigorous, accessible music training and performance to gifted young people of every background across the Charlotte region. It began in 1993 as a boys choir following the classic English tradition; now independent, the school has five choirs of boys and girls aged seven to eighteen, based at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Music theory is central to the training, and students memorize music and texts in several languages. Each year the choirs sing for thousands of listeners, with three concerts at St. Peter's in Uptown Charlotte and performances in sacred and secular settings around the region. Touring choirs and the MasterSingers travel the United States each summer, and every four years the MasterSingers visit England to see where the Anglican choral tradition began. Over more than 30 years, the program has reached over 900 young singers.
