About

This association presents Horn in the West, an outdoor drama in Boone, NC, staged since 1952 on the Daniel Boone Amphitheater stage. The play portrays frontiersman Daniel Boone and the hardy Blue Ridge Mountains settlers in the period leading up to and through the War for Independence. Its story follows Dr. Geoffrey Stuart, a British physician who travels to the Colony of Carolina to research smallpox with his wife, Martha, and son, Jack, and who becomes a leader in a hidden mountain community while torn between the Crown and his family's support for the Regulators. The drama was written by Dr. Kermit Hunter, a playwright known for historical dramas. The 74th season has ended, and the 2027 season will celebrate 75 years of the show.
