About
The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is a cooperative owned and run by 21 local artists who show contemporary fine art and fine craft, including painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, photomontage, jewelry, glass, metals, enamel, encaustic and wood. It grew out of a meeting of Hillsborough artists in July 2006; fifteen of them became founding members, studied how co-ops elsewhere were organized, and agreed to share expenses and take turns hanging work, cleaning and staffing the gallery so customers could talk with the artists. The gallery has since taken over the space a bookstore once occupied, which brought a large window and more light, yet its cooperative, joyful spirit remains. Artist Talks give visitors an informal chance to meet members and learn about their process.
