About Mint Hill
This Charlotte-area suburb lies in southeastern Mecklenburg County, with a small part reaching into Union County. It sits on the outskirts of Charlotte, near the Cabarrus County line, with Matthews to the southwest and Stallings to the south. Scots-Irish pioneers founded it around 1750 and it became Mecklenburg County’s first town. No one knows exactly when it first got a charter, but in 1910 town officials gave it up so the county would build a road through town. The town had no elected officials from then until it incorporated again in 1971. Interstate 485 runs along its east side and NC 51 through its center. The town center sits on a ridge between the Catawba and Rocky River watersheds. A branch of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library serves residents. Source: Wikipedia

Teacher’s remarks
The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
