About Newton
Newton is the seat of Catawba County and sits at the center of the county, with Conover to the north and Hickory to the northwest. It was founded in 1845 and incorporated a decade later. It is part of the Hickory metro area. The 1924 county courthouse is now home to the Catawba County Museum of History. Other National Register listings include the Newton Downtown Historic District, the 1887 Grace Reformed Church and St. Paul’s Church, a log church from 1808. A local daily paper has covered Newton and Conover since 1879. Singer-songwriter Tori Amos and bluegrass fiddler Bobby Hicks are among its notable people. Source: Wikipedia
