About Pineville

Pineville lies in the southernmost part of Mecklenburg County, between Charlotte and Fort Mill, South Carolina, in the Waxhaws region. Before it was incorporated in 1873 it was called Morrow’s Turnout, a spot where two Native American trading routes met and where trade animals were turned out to pasture. It served as a mule trading center and a stagecoach stop, and the Charlotte & Columbia Railroad later stopped there too. Around 1852 it was renamed for the area’s large pine stands. Dover Yarn Mills opened a cotton mill here in the 1890s that later became Cone Mills and ran until 1991. Land near the town’s I-485 interchanges became North Carolina’s biggest shopping district. The President James K. Polk Historic Site has an original period cabin, reconstructed buildings, guided tours and a museum. Pineville Lake Park has trails, a stage and a splash pad. Teacher’s remarks

The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
