About
a/perture cinema is a nonprofit art house cinema in Downtown Winston-Salem and the only dedicated year-round art house in the Piedmont Triad. It has 4.5 screens and 231 seats, local concessions, and beer and wine. Its mission is to entertain and engage the community through film that informs, educates, provokes thought and builds community, with more than 250 films and special events and over 4,000 screenings a year. The name nods to photography, with the slash standing for an f-stop. Opened on January 8, 2010, it switched to digital projection in 2012, was named a Sundance Art House Project Cinema in 2015, became a nonprofit in 2016, and has since added education programs, streetside cinema, a/ mobile and Sundance Satellite Screenings.
