About

Theatre of Dare began in 1991 with help from Ruth Ambrosius, Pat Clayton and the Outer Banks Forum, briefly calling itself the "Players of Truth and Dare." Its first show, California Suite, ran at the Port O'Call restaurant in March 1992. The company later settled in the College of the Albemarle auditorium until it was torn down in 2017, then performed at the Lost Colony Sound Stage, Festival Park, the Elizabethan Gardens and elsewhere. In 2022 it opened its own space in Kitty Hawk. It has staged dozens of plays, musicals and vignettes and welcomes volunteers onstage and off.
