About

Bear Shadow is a three-day spring music festival on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau, held at a base camp called Ferngrove about five minutes from downtown Highlands. It began in 2021 as a sister event to Highlands Food & Wine and shares its name with the Shadow of the Bear, a natural spectacle in which a shadow grows from the valley floor into a bear's outline against Whiteside Mountain. The festival brings well-known acts in Americana and bluegrass to the mountains; past performers include Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Black Pumas, Band of Horses and The War and Treaty. Weekends open with a Friday benefit concert, followed by main stage shows on Saturday and Sunday. Daytime experiences such as fly fishing outings and guided hikes with music round things out, and shuttles run between downtown Highlands and the site.
