Notasium's Piano Camp in Durham gives kids five half days to try an instrument when they don't yet know where to start. The camp packs Notasium's group piano class lessons into one week of instruction and activities. Children find out how a piano works, pick up some of its history, and learn how numbers and symbols show notes and rhythm on the page. By the end of the week they are playing their first songs. Notasium is a Durham business with a play space that also teaches drum lessons, runs 10- and 12-week group music classes for ages from 2 and under up, and rents violins month to month. Its other summer camps focus on guitar, ukulele, and music and play.
