Mars Hill University's Department of Music
- Region
About
The Department of Music at Mars Hill University, a private liberal arts university in the Blue Ridge Mountains about 25 minutes north of Asheville, is known for producing educators and performers. Students of any major can join ensembles such as the University Choir, Wind Symphony, Opera Workshop, Chamber Singers and Jazz Band. Its stage, the Wayne Pressley Stage, houses an Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ installed in 1961. The department hosts an auditioned Choral Festival, and it holds a performing and visual arts preview day for prospective students. Alumni return at homecoming to sing with the choir and play with the band. Mars Hill was founded in 1856 and is the oldest college in western North Carolina that still occupies its original site.
