Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival

Highlands, NC

About

The Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival is a summer chamber music series in the Western Carolina mountains, founded in 1982 by double bassist Lucas Drew after a pilot series of concerts in 1976. Concerts are given in Highlands, at the Martin-Lipscomb Performing Arts Center, and in Cashiers, and the festival has also performed in nearby Georgia. Modeled on the Marlboro Music Festival and on the Lincoln Center chamber music society, it ranks among the oldest summer chamber music festivals in the country. Over more than forty seasons it has brought together returning and new artists. The festival has offered the informal Bach at Buck's series of solo and duo string music in a Cashiers coffee house, along with lectures, and selected concerts have aired on NPR's Performance Today.
