About

Copper Barrel Distillery opened in North Wilkesboro in April of 2015, two years after it was founded by George Smith, its President and CEO, and Buck Nance, its Master Distiller. Wilkes County calls itself the Moonshine Capital of America, and Buck, a moonshine folk hero with more than 50 years of equipment experience, designed and built a steam-injected distillation system the company calls the first legal one in the world. Every spirit is made in the stillhouse from North Carolina grains and cut with well water drawn on site from the Crystalline-Rock Aquifer. The true shine blends rye, corn and cane sugar. The flagship White Lightning is described as smooth, with a green apple aroma, a hint of sweetness and a clean finish, suited to sipping neat or mixing.
