About
One of two main buildings on the Arts Council campus in downtown Winston-Salem is the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts, and the other is Hanesbrands Theatre. The center dates from 2010 and was renovated in 2019. It contains two performance spaces, a pair of art galleries, a community arts school and the Community Arts Gift Shop. Reynolds Place Theatre, added on the first floor in 2019, has LED lighting, projection and audio systems and fully retractable seating, so it works for seated shows or open-floor events. On the second floor, Mountcastle Forum is a small, flexible black-box theatre for smaller performances and private events. The Main Gallery shows professionally curated exhibitions by local and national artists all year, and the Associated Artists Gallery displays juried work by the members of the Associated Artists group. The Arts Council behind it, founded in 1949, was the first arts council in the United States established locally.
