About
Canary Complex is the musical project of Canary Kasey, an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. It draws on the romance of 1990s Japanese visual kei as well as French chanson, progressive rock and Impressionist art, pairing lush guitar arrangements and orchestral textures with dreamlike melodies and personal storytelling. Kasey found visual kei as a teenager and was drawn to the soaring melodies, detailed guitar work and theatrical beauty of acts like Malice Mizer, Kamijo / Lareine, Shazna and Luna Sea. The project started with Kasey alone, and he still writes and records every part except drums, but Canary Complex now performs as a full live band. It began in America and has built a devoted international following. Its songs dwell on fading seasons, forgotten letters and unrequited love, set in a world the project calls “The Imaginary Paris”.
