About
Gena Britt is a North Carolina native who grew up in a small town in the central part of the state and now lives in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. She took to bluegrass as a young child, hearing it in local dance halls. Britt is known for forceful banjo work, steady acoustic bass and warm lead and harmony singing. Her earlier bands include Alan Bibey & Grasstowne, Lou Reid & Carolina, New Vintage and Petticoat Junction; she also led The Gena Britt Band for four years and helped found The Daughters of Bluegrass. Today she tours with Sister Sadie, the all-female group she co-founded, which has earned two GRAMMY nominations and appears often on the Grand Ole Opry. Her honors include eight IBMA awards, among them Entertainer of the Year in 2020 with Sister Sadie. Her latest solo album, "Streets, Rivers, Dreams & Heartaches," came out on Mountain Home in November 2025.
