About
New Music Raleigh (NMR), founded in 2009, is a musical collective focused on music by living composers; Indy Week has called it “the Southeast’s most plugged-in musical collective.” NMR stages adventurous new works and collaborations that challenge how people think of classical music and aim to engage and inspire diverse audiences. As performer, presenter and advocate at once, it has created events for Duke Performances, the National Gallery of Art, the North Carolina Opera, CAM Raleigh and the North Carolina Symphony. In 2013 NMR received the INDY Arts Award for its community contributions and its commitment to growing the arts in Raleigh. Co-Curators Karen Strittmatter Galvin and Shawn Galvin lead its programs with help from volunteers, under the fiscal sponsorship of Fractured Atlas.
