About
Shelton Powe came to music in the late 1980s, taking up the instruments he had been given as a boy and returning to the old songs he grew up hearing. He developed a finger-style guitar approach and a Piedmont blues repertoire. His collection Same Train goes back to his first influence, the church music of his youth, with songs that arrive as memories of sitting in a Baptist pew surrounded by the harmonies of the elders. He recorded it during the summer heat at the Fountain, NC studio of Music Maker Foundation, with Sam Duffy on mandolin, and KeAmber Daniels, Anthony Daniels and Johnny Ray Daniels, three gospel singers, join him on several songs.
