About

The Pinkerton Raid is led by songwriter Jesse James DeConto, a former journalist whose songs, and the stories he tells between them, deal with fatherhood and with fighting for a future amid climate change, democratic collapse and concentrated wealth and power. His seventh full-length, IF YOU LOVE SOMEBODY, TELL THEM, puts fatherhood at the center and has two co-producers, David Wimbish of The Collection and James Phillips of Bombadil. He calls it a protest album and argues that real politics grows out of loving our neighbors, which makes protest songs love songs. Singles such as "Wishing Wells" and "This Machine Kills Loneliness" take on social inequity, mass trauma and caring for one another. At live shows Jesse may talk about Lawrence, Mass., the Labor Movement and his family's history. His influences range from STAR WARS, Celtic lore and Kerouac to Woody Guthrie and John Lennon, and a fair number of his songs are about trees.
