About
The Winston-Salem Symphony is celebrating 80 years of music in its current season. Michelle Merrill became its conductor in the 2023/2024 season after four years on the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's conducting staff, first as Assistant and then as Associate Conductor; she also leads the Coastal Symphony of Georgia. The Winston-Salem Symphony Chorus is directed by Chris Gilliam, who also directs choral activities at Wake Forest University. Season programs range from Brahms and Beethoven to a costumed family concert, Jocelyn Hagen's multimedia The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, Violins of Hope in memory of Holocaust victims, the acrobats and jugglers of Cirque de la Symphonie, and Handel's Messiah at Christmastime.
