About
Woody Platt, from Brevard, North Carolina, spent more than twenty years as a founding member, lead singer and guitarist of the Steep Canyon Rangers, a Grammy Award-winning band. With them he toured and recorded with Steve Martin and entered the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. He stepped back from full-time touring with the Rangers in 2022. That same year his single "One Last Goodbye," written by Chris Stapleton and Barry Bales, went to #1 on the weekly Bluegrass Today airplay chart and ended 2022 as that outlet's most-played song. His solo debut, Far Away With You, came out on Compass Records in 2024 with guests including Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, Darrell Scott, Bryan Sutton, Tim O'Brien and Del McCoury. Today he leads Woody Platt & The Bluegrass Gentlemen, with Bennett Sullivan on banjo, Daren Shumaker on mandolin, Casey Driessen on fiddle and Buddy Melton on bass, a band rooted in bluegrass tradition but loose and spontaneous on stage.
