About Aberdeen
Aberdeen is a Sandhills town in the southern part of Moore County, bordered by Pinehurst and Southern Pines. Scottish emigrants began settling the area in 1745 and founded Bethesda and Blue’s Crossing. Early work centered on naval stores from the area’s pines, and after the Civil War a railroad linked Blue’s Crossing to wider markets. The community took the name Aberdeen in 1888. Tobacco farming came in the early twentieth century, and nearness to Pinehurst brought a boom in tourism and retirement that still shapes the economy. National Register listings include Bethesda Presbyterian Church, the Malcolm Blue Farm, the John Blue House and the town’s historic district. Source: Wikipedia

Teacher’s remarks
The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
