About Apex
Apex lies in both Wake and Chatham counties, southwest of Raleigh and south of Research Triangle Park. It grew around a water stop at the highest point of the Chatham Railroad, first known as log pond, and was incorporated in 1873. A 1911 fire destroyed most of the downtown business district, which was rebuilt and is now one of the state’s most intact railroad towns. The Apex Union Depot stands at the heart of town and houses the Chamber of Commerce. The population quadrupled during the 1990s. The Halle Cultural Arts Center, built as the Town Hall in 1912 and now offering a theater, classroom and gallery space, and Apex PeakFest fills downtown with food, crafts and entertainment each May. Teacher’s remarks
The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
