About Archdale

Archdale was once called Bush Hill and began as a mostly Quaker settlement. It was renamed for John Archdale, a lord proprietor and early Quaker governor. The city was incorporated in July 1969 after voters held a referendum driven by the need for water and sewer service. It lies mostly in Randolph County and reaches north into Guilford County, with High Point to the north and Trinity to the southwest. Interstate 85 runs through town. Harper House and the Moses Hammond House are on the National Register of Historic Places. Local attractions include Creekside Park, Kersey Valley Spookywoods and the Bush Hill Festival. Teacher’s remarks

The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.

                Next steps

                • Ask venues, museums and galleries to claim their listings and add seating capacity.
                • Send us the adopted arts budget lines, grant programs and arts office details, so support is counted from evidence.
                • List every recurring arts festival with its dates, so it counts.
                • Add founding years to long-running venues, festivals and arts groups.
                • Request the full Archdale advisory report from the Ray Arts Foundation.
Not yet measured: Heritage. Missing information is never counted as zero; the grade uses the subjects that are measured. About these grades. Ray Arts Index v1.2, published 2026-10-15. Every subject is measured per resident against fixed national reference points, so town size never changes a grade, and a grade of C means the national typical level. Local government support and arts education carry 30% of the weight. How it’s calculated.
