About Cornelius
Cornelius sits along Lake Norman in northern Mecklenburg County, about twenty miles north of Charlotte, with Davidson to the north and Huntersville to the south. People have lived in the area since at least the 1750s, and Potts Plantation was set up nearby in 1753; it is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The town was founded in 1893 and incorporated in 1905 and historians often trace its start to a dispute over weighing cotton. Since 1990 it has grown enormously into a major Charlotte suburb. Several NASCAR drivers are counted among its notable people. Source: Wikipedia

Teacher’s remarks
The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
