About Garner

Garner is a town in Wake County, a suburb of Raleigh within the Research Triangle region. Land nearby was first settled around 1751. A wood-and-water stop on the North Carolina Railroad grew into Garner’s Station, which received a post office in 1878 and became incorporated in 1883. Its charter was repealed in 1891 and restored in 1905 as the Town of Garner. U.S. Route 70 is Garner’s main east-west road and became the state’s first paved highway in 1917. National Register sites include Edenwood, Meadowbrook Country Club and the downtown historic district. The Governor Morehead School started on a campus in Garner, and singer Scotty McCreery and NBA player John Wall are among notable people from the town. Source: Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)

Teacher’s remarks

The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
