About Indian Trail

Indian Trail is named for an old route used by traders heading from Petersburg, Virginia, toward the Waxhaw Indians and the gold mines. It began as a farming community, and German, Scots-Irish and Irish settlers moved in. In 1874 a railroad was built through town between Charlotte and Monroe, and it brought prosperity. The town incorporated in 1907 and its old rail depot still stands. Today Indian Trail is a suburb roughly ten miles southeast of Charlotte in the Piedmont, and it has grown rapidly this century as a home for commuters. Source: Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)

Teacher’s remarks

The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
