The town

About Morrisville

Morrisville is named for Jeremiah Morris, who donated land for a railroad depot in 1852. Near the end of the Civil War, Union and Confederate cavalry clashed at Morrisville Station. The town was chartered in 1875 and lost its charter in 1933. It regained it in 1947. It lies mostly in Wake County, midway between Raleigh and Durham, next to Research Triangle Park, the airport and I-40. That location draws offices and hotels. Lenovo, Oracle and Syneos Health are based here, and the town has become one of the most diverse in the state. Cricket is among its youth sports. National Register sites include the Pugh House and Williamson Page House, and a new town center broke ground in 2025. Source: Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)

Teacher’s remarks

The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
