About Mount Holly
Mount Holly sits in northeastern Gaston County, just west of the Catawba River and about twelve miles northeast of Gastonia. The area had a post office named Woodlawn, and in 1875 the town took the name Mount Holly from a new cotton mill, honoring yarn spun in Mount Holly, New Jersey. That mill is the oldest surviving one in the county, and the town incorporated in 1879. The county’s first railroad began serving it in 1860. Textiles still matter here, with thread maker American & Efird based in town, alongside a Freightliner truck plant and a wallboard plant. The downtown historic district holds restaurants, churches, a coffee shop and shops. Source: Wikipedia

Teacher’s remarks
The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.
