About Rolesville

Rolesville sits in northeastern Wake County and is a suburb of Raleigh. It takes its name from William H. Roles, who bought land and settled here early in the nineteenth century. Under his leadership the town was chartered in 1837 and it became a stagecoach stop. Rolesville Baptist Church was founded around the same time, with Roles involved there too. Only one town in Wake County is older. The town gives its name to the Rolesville Batholith, a diorite bedrock formation that shows up as rocky outcrops in and around town. Residents can visit Mill Bridge Nature Park, Main Street Park, Redford Place Park and the Rolesville Community Center. Source: Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)

              Teacher’s remarks

The Ray Arts Index gives extra weight to local government support and arts education, because public investment in the arts, and in teaching it, is how creative communities grow.

              Next steps

              • Send us the adopted arts budget lines, grant programs and arts office details, so support is counted from evidence.
              • List every recurring arts festival with its dates, so it counts.
              • Ask venues and arts groups to post their dates or an events feed, so activity is measured, not missed.
              • Add founding years to long-running venues, festivals and arts groups.
              • Request the full Rolesville advisory report from the Ray Arts Foundation.
Not yet measured: Heritage. Missing information is never counted as zero; the grade uses the subjects that are measured. About these grades. Ray Arts Index v1.2, published 2026-10-15. Every subject is measured per resident against fixed national reference points, so town size never changes a grade, and a grade of C means the national typical level. Local government support and arts education carry 30% of the weight. How it’s calculated.
