Hillsborough Visitors Center, 150 E King Street, Hillsborough
This guided walk through downtown Hillsborough explores American history through one of North Carolina's oldest towns, which was founded to be the Orange County seat of government in 1754. From its starting point, the Hillsborough Visitors Center in the Alexander Dickson Farm House from the eighteenth century, the tour visits sites such as a 1790s African American-owned distillery, the grave of a North Carolina signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the 1840s Orange County Courthouse. Expect to walk or stand the whole time, sometimes on uneven ground, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Groups concerned about length or terrain can ask The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough about other options, including bus tours.
