About

The Earl Scruggs Music Festival is a celebration over several days that honors the banjo innovator whose three-finger style changed American music. It takes place across the walkable grounds at Tryon International Equestrian Center, near the Blue Ridge Mountains and a few miles from the Cleveland County birthplace of Scruggs. The Earl Scruggs Center, a museum in Shelby, and the public radio station WNCW-FM present it together. The lineup mixes bluegrass, Americana and roots music, from headline sets by icons to one-time collaborations, and the International Bluegrass Music Association named it 2025 Event of the Year. Beyond the stages, visitors find workshops and jam sessions, campers trading tunes at dawn, and young students of the Junior Appalachian Musician program performing. Hotel rooms and RV and tent camping are available on site.
