About

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina hosts its Harvest Moon Powwow in Pembroke. The most recent edition moved to the main gym of the Jones Center on University Drive. Over three days, grand entries open the dancing, with head male and female dancers, dance and drum judges, an arena director, emcees, and host northern and southern drums. Visitors can watch dancers and hear the drum groups, and camping is offered for RVs and tents. Children five and under get in free. The Lumbee homeland lies along the Lumbee River in Robeson, Scotland, Hoke and Cumberland counties. The tribe was recognized by North Carolina in 1885 and gained full federal recognition in December 2025.
