About
Asheville Music School is a nonprofit in West Asheville whose mission joins music education and outreach with support for working teachers and musicians. More than 35 educators give private lessons across many styles and instruments to learners of every age and ability, and the school also runs band and ensemble classes, group classes, master classes, workshops and summer camps in a family-friendly setting. Many of the teachers are also working performers in the area and region. The school started in 1996 as a community business, became a 501(c)(3) in 2012, and is overseen by a volunteer board. It offers need-based scholarships and rents affordable studio space to teaching artists. Its Sound Education outreach program offers free concerts and group classes for veterans, seniors, homeless people, people in recovery and people with disabilities. Summer camps for ages 4-18 range from Rock Camps and Suzuki Strings to Ukulele, Jazz, Appalachian Music and Open Jam camps, with time outdoors when the weather allows.
