Blue Ridge Banjo Camp, presented by Béla Fleck in Brevard at the Brevard Music Center, brings Fleck together with a team of top banjo players and teachers for a week of varied instruction that ends with a finale concert in Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium. Teaching focuses on three styles of three-finger playing: single string, melodic and Scruggs. The camp seeks intermediate to advanced players who are eager, enthusiastic learners, and it uses audition recordings to understand each applicant; the curriculum is shaped after the auditions are reviewed. Along with skill-building, it takes a holistic approach meant to help players keep improving after camp and to support the growth of the 5-string banjo as an art form.
