About

Chapel Hill School of Musical Arts (CHSMA) grew from private voice lessons that Sharon Szymanski began teaching at home in 2000; demand led her to add teachers, then piano and guitar, and to move into a commercial space. Today nearly 30 teachers serve hundreds of students a year with lessons in voice, piano, strings, and orchestral and band instruments, plus performances and other learning activities. The two-story school has a large classroom, 16 private studios and indoor and outdoor waiting areas. Every faculty member holds at least one degree, and some teach in Spanish, German, French, Portuguese or Greek. CHSMA believes anyone, of any age or experience, can learn to sing or play an instrument.
