About
Elizabeth City State University's Department of Music and Visual Arts includes a music program accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The program gives students a strong grounding in music theory, aural skills, history and music technology, while putting performance and real-world musical experience at the center. Students take part in ensembles such as the concert band, and the program prepares graduates for music careers, graduate study and creative work across many musical fields. It urges students to find their sound, sharpen their skill and share their gift. ECSU was founded in 1891 to bring higher education within reach of African American students and today serves students of all backgrounds.
