About

The Glickman-Popkin Bassoon Camp is a nonprofit camp founded in 1978 by bassoonists Loren Glickman and Mark Popkin and held at the Wildacres Retreat Center in Little Switzerland. It offers bassoonists of every age and level an integrated, non-competitive learning experience covering orchestral, ballet and opera excerpts, recitals, reed-making, and instrument repair. Campers aged 18 on up, whether college students, amateurs or professionals, learn from renowned bassoonists and teachers from top orchestras at home and overseas, amid beautiful mountain scenery. Glickman was a founding artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and co-directed the camp for 42 years. For 42 years Popkin led a large bassoon studio in Winston-Salem, NC, teaching at North Carolina School of the Arts, and the two co-wrote a reed-making book that has been called “the bassoonists’ bible.” The camp runs as a 10-day festival.
