About
Notasium's Ukulele Camp is a week-long summer crash course in Durham for kids who want to learn this small, friendly instrument. Campers start with how the ukulele works and a bit of its history, then learn basic melodies and simple chords from easy-to-read charts and tab notation, and by week's end play them in tempo and with dynamics. Because the ukulele is tuned much like a guitar, many chord shapes carry over, making it a handy first step toward guitar. It's run by Notasium, a Durham business with a play space, which also teaches drum lessons, runs 10- and 12-week group music classes for ages from 2 and under up, and rents violins month to month.
