About
The UNC Summer Jazz Workshop is a five-day summer jazz program run by the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Music. It welcomes a wide range of students, from rising 8th graders and high schoolers to college students and adults, who want an immersive, fast-paced week of jazz study. Instruction covers jazz theory, improvisation, small-group combo playing and group lessons. Participants can join the non-credit Community Summer Jazz Workshop, which has its own morning theory and improvisation classes, or take it as a three-credit UNC course; both groups come together in the afternoon for combos and group lessons. Students are asked to prepare in advance with training videos on chord symbols and piano voicings.
