About

The Department of Music at UNC-Chapel Hill teaches, studies and performs music across many traditions. It presents more than 100 events a year, and most are free and open to the public. Series include the William S. Newman Artists Series, the Carolina Jazz Festival, Talking Music and Conversations in Modern Music, with performances by students, faculty and visiting artists. Concerts happen in Kenan Music Building, Hill Hall's Moeser Auditorium, Person Hall and Memorial Hall. University students of any major can take private or group lessons in classical piano, winds, brass, percussion, strings, jazz and bluegrass instruments, and voice. Each summer the department hosts workshops for musicians of all ages, including the Carolina Summer Jazz Workshop, the Chapel Hill Chamber Music Workshop and the Carolina Hip Hop Institute.
