About
UNC Pembroke's Department of Music offers degrees in music, musical theatre, music with a music industry emphasis, and music education, along with several minors and concentrations. The department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and stresses small classes, ensembles and hands-on experience. Its marching band, the Spirit of the Carolinas, welcomes brass, woodwind, percussion and colorguard members and performs at games, parades and campus events. Prospective majors apply to the university and audition with the department on set dates during the year. UNCP began in 1887 as a school for American Indian students, and the campus is also home to the Givens Performing Arts Center and the Museum of the Southeast American Indian.
